Ivor Novello NominationsThe 58th Ivor Novello Awards takes place tonight at Grosvenor House, London. Emeli Sande is nominated for two awards including Best Song Musically and Lyrically and PRS for Music Most Performed Work. Other nominations include Olly Murs, Plan B and Coldplay.

The Ivors celebrate, honour and reward excellence in song writing and composing. They also honour individuals with awards recognising their contribution to British Music. Artists are nominated based on the work that they have released in the UK within the award year.

The awards are presented by BASCA (British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors) who are the professional association for music writers in the UK. The association has over 2,000 members and is the single voice for British music creators. Current members include Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Adele lead the nominations last year with four nods and took home Songwriter of the Year and PRS for Music Most Performed Work. Other Previous winners include The Clash, Duran Duran, Bryan Ferry, Kate Bush and Ray Davies. Sir Paul McCartney has called The Ivors the “greatest award – the greatest thing to get for songwriters.”

There will be extra awards presented on the day recognising individual contributions to British music. These awards are in the gift of BASCA, approved by The Ivors Committee.
